Inviting everyone to help us create the Mesh Project

Mesh is an open-source, decentralized file storage system designed to be self-healing, secure, and cost-effective. Its key feature is the ability to run easily on standard shared hosting. It aims to provide a distributed way to store files with redundancy by leveraging common web hosting features like HTTP/TCP/IP and cron jobs.

The Mesh source code is licensed under GPL 3.0 and is currently available on GitHub: https://github.com/kabeer11000/libremesh. Every Mesh node requires knowing atleast one other Mesh node, this is my testing and development root Mesh node: https://libremesh-mesh0-root.infy.uk.

My goal with this project is to shift away from centralized cloud providers like AWS. Instead, I want to allow anyone to come together and securely share storage, with minimal hardware requirements. Mesh will eventually incorporate end-to-end encryption to ensure data privacy.

While it’s technically possible, I discourage hosting public Mesh nodes on free shared hosting plans to avoid freeloading off these services. A more sustainable option would be to run Mesh on an old computer or a device you already own.
